January 11th, 2003

 

The meeting was called to order at 1002 hours by Commodore JD Smith.

 

A roll call was taken and the following association’s representatives were present:

A quorum was present.

 

Secretary’s report:    Minutes were approved as submitted.

 

Financial report:         Balance sheet and income statement were presented and are part of these minutes.  The proposed budget would be presented to the next Bridge by e-mail.

 

Rear Commodore’s report:  

            R/C Jerry Wellnitz announced the winner of the Horder Trophy was the Seattle Yacht Club Junior Program.  MOTION by S/C Bill Lewis to carry over entries for the Horder Trophy for one more year.  SECOND by Dave MacCullogh.  PASSED.  R/C Jerry Wellnitz will notify Balboa Yacht Club of this Motion.

Members of the PCYA Bridge participated as members of the selection committee.

 

Vice Commodore’s report:

            V/C Marda Phelps announced that William “Bill” Bradshaw was the new Langlais Award winner and was concerned that the press releases for the winner of the Langlais Award would not be released.  R/C Jerry Wellnitz, Jr. S/C Bill Lewis and Sec/Treas Paul Artof said they would take care of this for her as it concerned the national publications.  S/C Pat Goodfellow took the responsibility  for the Vice Commodore’s local area.  The yet to be installed Sec/Treas. This group will wait until  photographs are received so that they may be included in the releases.

           

Commodore’s report:

            Commodore J.D. Smith expressed satisfaction with the year and the work of each of the officers.

 

Nominating committee:

            The Nominating Committee proposed the following as its slate of officers for 2003:

                        Jr. S/C J.D. Smith

                        Commodore Marda Phelps

                        V/Commodore Jerry Wellnitz

                        R/Commodore Paul Artof

                        Sec/Treas Bob Good

 

OLD BUSINESS

Carr Regatta:             V/C Phelps will have an announcement sent within 2 weeks.  The proposed scheduling is June 12th through the 15th.  S/C Pat Goodfellow will be the general race chairman.  Pat announced that the boat used will be manufactured by J boats.  Marda will try to get J to publish our posters at their expense.

 

PCYA Brochure:                    Report by Sec/Treas Paul Artof reveals the prospective printing costs in the $3200.00 - $3500.00 for 100 to 200 copies.  This projection should cover most expenses

MOTION by S/C Joe Castagana to send a letter to the Staff commodores requesting a $100.00 donation to help pay for the expense of the brochure and R/C Wellnitz to conduct a 50/50 raffle at the Barusch/Castagna.  SECOND by Jr. S/C Bill Lewis.  PASSEDThe PCYA Bridge will constitute the committee to put this brochure together.  Jerry Wellnitz will allocate responsibilities.  Sec/Treas Paul Artof volunteered to be involved with the printing process.  The target completion date will be 12/31/2003.

 

S/C Dave MacCullough will deliver the old brochures to Paul Artof and Bill Lewis for distribution to our member organizations.

 

Records and Archive:            Jr. S/C Bill Lewis has been in touch with SCYA S/C Jim Clark and is piggy-backing our archive and storage with that of SCYA.  It is expected that University of Southern California will provide a 3 foot square area to store our records.

 

Dues increase:                       MOTION by Sec/Treas Paul Artof and Second by. S/C Joe Castagana to raise dues 10%.  FAILED.  We should not raise dues until we provide a greater benefit.

 

Balboa Cup Challenge uses a PCYA perpetual trophy for their event.  Jr. S/C Bill Lewis contacted them to see if we could be involved in some way.  They informed us that there was little possibility to be involved in the near future.

           

Team Log Race will be considered by a committee made up of  Jr. S/C Bill Lewis, R/C Jerry Wellnitz, J.D. Smith and 2003 Sec/Treas Bob Good.

 

New Business:           None

Jr. S/C Report:           Bill Lewis had a great time this last.  He received a round of applause for a job well done.

 

After-thoughts:           V/C Marda Phelps will purchase a gavel for Commodore Smith. 

                                    Each officer should prepare a procedure manual for those who follow
